Module Rationale, Aims and Objectives

This module will enable students to develop an understanding of organisations and be able to discuss some of the fundamental concepts of business. Students will be encouraged to apply appropriate business models to understand and analyse business problems.

Overview and Objectives
This module provides an introduction to the key principles of Accounting and Economics. It is designed for students who have never studied business subjects before and who may not be native speakers of English.

The material is not intended to be a test of computational ability. Numbers will be used to explain some topics but it is the ideas presented in the topics that are the most important. The module is not intended to promote political or cultural views but rather to give a basic introduction to these two fields and the relationship between them.

Module Rationale, Aims and Objectives
The purpose of this module is to develop the student’s knowledge of the fundamental mathematical definitions and techniques in English that will be appropriate for their studies on the International Foundation Programme and increase students ‘confidence when they subsequently study at undergraduate level.

The module will develop the student’s ability to apply judgement in correctly selecting a range of mathematical tools and techniques to interpret and analyse business problems.

Module Rationale, Aims and Objectives
The module aims to further develop student academic study and communication skills necessary to succeed on their future undergraduate programme. Students will apply the analytical, academic and linguistic skills developed in the Academic English and IFP subject module classes.

Students will also develop their communication skills through participating with others in a variety of contexts including seminars and tutorials; writing narratives, descriptions and academic documents.

In addition, students will appreciate the importance of independent learning through private study and reflection on their own learning.
